The Start of Something Good
From the Spring 2009 Issue

It’s a challenging time for real estate. Prices have plummeted in many parts of the country. New home sales have dropped 40 percent in some areas. Yet there are bright spots in the Southern mountains. Like the incredible $40 million day this fall at The Cliffs’ newest development.

In the mood for a great success story?

Here’s one that’s hard to top.

It’s the tale of a remarkable day – November 8, 2008 – at The Cliffs at High Carolina near Asheville, N.C. And like most stories, it has two main characters: golf superstar Tiger Woods and developer Jim Anthony, the mastermind behind the Southern mountains’ fabulous Cliffs Communities.

That day marked the launch of Anthony’s newest project, the location where the iconic Woods chose to design his first American golf course. Propelled by smart marketing strategies, an ideal project and the lure of a celebrity, the crowds came in force. It was a “bright spot” amid today’s ecnomic news that has been covered by major national media including CNBC and Business Week.
Anthony gives us a look at this good news story:

The launch of The Cliffs at High Carolina was a huge success at a time when sales in the South dropped six percent from September to October. How do you explain such an accomplishment?

First of all, Tiger’s brand transcends golf. Second, The Cliffs at High Carolina is an incredible piece of land; all we had to do was get people here to experience what an extraordinary place it is. Third, it was The Cliffs’ 20-year track record in developing and building golf communities. In this time of uncertainty, this track record is even more important [than usual] because people want to know you’ll be around in five years and that your business is sustainable. Lastly, it’s the location – the marketplace is trending toward the Carolina mountains.
