EDUCATION

I was raised in an environment of artistic exploration and creative exchange at Penland School of Crafts, in the mountains of North Carolina. This unique environment gave me the rare opportunity of exposure to, and participation in, the creative process with both established and emerging artists. With a father who received his MFA in design and sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art under Eliel Saarinen and Carl Milles: artistic stimulation went from the studio to the dining room. While having a natural disposition to sculpture, and various mediums and artists such as, Don Reitz, Paul Kubick, Brent Kington, Mark Peiser, Dale Chihuly, and Toshiko Takaezu, all influenced my artistic development.
The educational process continued with a year-long apprenticeship in 1977 to Artist-Blacksmith, Ivan Bailey, in Savannah, Georgia. In 1978, I was selected, from national applications, to receive a National Endowment for the Arts scholarship grant, to participate in a research exchange project with Master Blacksmiths at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
I opened my studio in 1978, creating sculpture and sculptural commissions, for individual and corporate collectors across the United States. Invitational exhibitions, competitions, gallery shows, and museum exhibitions, have included examples of my work in a wide range of exhibitions.
